Virtualization

Virtualization consists of creating a virtual or software-based representation of physical entities; for example from applications, servers, networks and storage.

Virtualization takes full advantage of software to mimic hardware characteristics and thus create a virtual computing system. This allows organizations to operate multiple operating systems and applications with a single server. It also distributes the functions among various users or environments, which translates into maximum use of a physical machine.
